What's New?

Roy Evans, author of Who Governs our Schools? (Triarchy Press Pamphlet, November 2007, £8.99) has had his recommendations endorsed by the new DFeS Children's Plan.

Already advocated by Evans in his damning report on the state of governance in today's schools, one of the aims of the government's Children's Plan is to "make governing bodies more effective, beginning by consulting on reducing the size of governing bodies."

"Current rules on the constitution of governing bodies are too rigid and there is not enough flexibility in schools to work within them." Evans tells the Guardian newspaper this month, "Conversely the requirements for being appointed as a governor are too lax, with no mandatory requirement for training or assessment in this key role in children's education."
